Most people buy a safe twice. The first one is bought in a hurry — too small, never bolted down, and opened with a code nobody changes. The second one is bought after they have learned why that matters. This guide is for skipping straight to the second safe.
Start with what goes inside. Passports, deeds and cash need less space than you think; laptops, cameras and heirlooms need more. As a rule, choose one size larger than what you can fill today — a safe is a twenty-year purchase.
Then decide where it lives. A furniture safe hides inside a wardrobe and suits most apartments. A wall safe disappears into masonry — Maltese limestone walls take them well when properly set. For business takings, a deposit safe with a front slot lets staff drop cash without ever opening the door.
Anchoring is not optional. An unanchored safe under 100 kg is a carrying handle for a burglar. Every safe we sell can be bolted to floor or wall, and our fitters do it as part of delivery.
Electronic or key? Electronic locks with a mechanical override give you both: codes for daily use that you can change between cleaners, tenants or staff, and a key for the day the batteries give up — which they will, always on a Sunday.
